Focus on the Breath

If you have any kind of ill health or mental imbalance focusing on your breath is the most important thing you can do to get well.

The breath is the life force. It is fundamental. Everything starts with the breath.

Just concentrate on breathing in and out deeply from the diaphragm. Really feel the rising and falling of your belly. Don’t breathe from the chest which is shallow breathing.

Doing this calms down your body and mind. You are signalling to your brain that all is well. Everything is safe. This is crucial for recovering from anxiety.

There is no need for any particular type of breath. If you like you can try square breathing. Breathe in for 4, hold for 4, breathe out for 4, hold for 4. Repeat.

Closing your eyes can help to keep your focus on the breath but it is not essential.

Try it for a few minutes each day for 21 days.
