Thoughts on Lent

So we are in the season of Lent. This is the Christian custom of restricting diet in the run up to Easter. In the past some people did not eat at all on certain days. In this time it often ends up with giving something up like chocolate.

I usually give something up, but this year I decided to undertake a Daniel Fast. This is where you just eat fruit and vegetables and water. I am hoping it will help my spiritual practice and also make me healthier. Restriction can help focus the mind on what is really important. I hope to have further insights into myself and my purpose during this time. I feel my mind still needs more discipline. I will also be praying more and reading spiritual texts. Of course, I will be using self-hypnosis to give myself good habits.
