Centering Prayer

Centering prayer is a form of meditation with a Christian focus. It is silent prayer.

Simply sit in a comfortable position with your back straight. I cross my legs and sit on a cushion but you can sit in a chair. Bring your focus to your breath. Breathe normally through your nose in and out. Notice your breath.

Next, think of a mantra you would like to recite. Focus on something you want to bring more of into your life. It could be Jesus, grace, love or something else.

I tend to use the word Jesus. Just say the word over and over again. You can say it out loud or in your head. When your mind wanders just come back to the present moment and your mantra. Don’t judge yourself. There is no doing it wrong. Just sit.

Work up to twenty minutes or even longer if you can.

I have had some powerful imagery during centering prayer and I am left with a feeling of deep peace.

Try it today.

Hypnotherapy in person or online can help you feel calmer. I practise online or in Whinburgh which is three miles from Dereham in Norfolk.
